Amy Acaba, LMHC, Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Ms. Acaba earned her Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
Ms. Acaba has experience working with a range of mental health issues throughout the lifespan having worked with adults in an outpatient substance abuse treatment program, as well as with adolescents and children in a school setting. She specializes in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and substance abuse issues with diverse populations. She also has experience working with dating abuse, domestic violence, grief, anger management, stress management, and interpersonal issues.
Ms. Acaba relies on qualities such as authenticity, compassion, curiosity, and acceptance to create a therapeutic alliance in which growth can arise. She utilizes an integrative approach, consisting of psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral techniques, and person centered approaches. Ms. Acaba believes in the importance of intrinsic motivation, insight, and mindfulness to persevere through life’s many challenges.
