Maria Ruiz De Toro, LMHC, Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Ms. Ruiz De Toro has experience providing individual, family, and couples therapy and has helped clients to manage life transitions, acculturation challenges, and stress-related issues. She has experience working with adults and children from different ethnicities and backgrounds in a private clinical setting, as well as, with college students, children and families in the US foster care system, and trauma survivors in a refugee camp. Ms. Ruiz De Toro believes that including the person’s style and personal interests is essential during the healing process. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches, including insight oriented, experiential therapies, and evidence-based treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy. She also incorporates art interventions and body awareness techniques into her practice. As an international psychotherapist Ms. Ruiz De Toro has lived in and traveled to different parts of the world, including Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
She received her Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from The City University of New York, Brooklyn College, and completed a five-year-long program in psychology from the Andres Bello University in Venezuela. She has also completed training in well-accredited educational centers in New York, including Columbia University, Ackerman Institute, Hunter College, William Alanson White Institute, St. John’s University and Coalition of Behavioral Health Centers.
